Canalside Flood Assistance Centre meeting

The meeting will take place as usual on Wednesday, 9 April at the Canalside Conference Centre in Bridgwater and a representative from Direct Line Insurance is due to attend.

Running from 5.30pm until 8pm the meetings are a chance for people who have been affected by the flooding to meet and talk, and access a variety of agencies, which can offer advice and assistance regarding the aftermath of flooding, covering everything from insurance and grants to emotional support. All the relevant agencies involved in flood recovery are represented. Advice and assistance will be available from 5.30pm, with agencies available to answer any questions from 6pm.

Dredging update

The Environment Agency (EA) has started dredging on the right bank of the River Parrett at Moorland House Farm and will be working downstream. There have been site visits from the media, local councillors and the Prime Minister to explain the project in more detail.

An amphibious excavator will be working alongside the long-arm excavator and in the next two to three weeks, another gang and further machinery will start work on the opposite bank at Moorland House Farm. By this time we expect adjacent farmland to have dried out sufficiently to receive the silt directly.

By June there should be 8 gangs working at different locations along the Parrett and Tone removing around 235,000 cubic metres of silt.

The EA is holding twice weekly drop-in sessions at the Old School Rooms in Burrowbridge on a Tuesdays 3-5pm and Thursdays 9am-11am. Please come along and ask any questions you have about the dredging work. You can also find weekly updates on the EA website www.gov.uk/government/publications/somerset-levels-and-moors-reducing-the-risk-of-flooding
