Moorland and Fordgate Community Hub

This has been set up by the Community Council for Somerset (CCS), working with Sedgemoor District Council, in response to the village hall being unusable. It is providing a place for people to meet, find information and take some time out.

The portakabin has a main room with tea and coffee facilities and a meeting/quiet room for one-to-one meetings with an on-site booking system. You can find grant information sheets, dates and times for the Flood Assistance Centre meetings and information on the Somerset Village Agents working in your area.

Environment Agency flood surgeries

The Environment Agency is holding two more flood surgeries next week. The drop-in events are an opportunity for residents to discuss the recent flooding event, recovery, dredging and future resilience with the agency and relevant partners.

They are taking place at:

  • Tuesday, 29 April, 4-7pm: Burrowbridge, Village Hall

Covering the local area including Burrow Wall and Stathe Road.

  • Thursday, 1 May, 4-7pm: The Rose and Crown, East Lyng

Covering the local area, including West Lyng and Baltmoor Wall (West).

This follows a similar event at the Willows and Wetlands Centre and there will be further events covering other localities over the coming weeks.

Dredging update

So far more than 300m of the right bank of the Parrett have been dredged, removing around 4,200 cubic metres of silt from the river. Dredging on the left bank is scheduled to start on Monday (28 April).
