Dulverton schools consultation latest

A consultation on whether to change the age range of two schools in Dulverton is to be extended to encourage more parents to have their say.

Somerset County Council has consulted on changing the age range of Dulverton First and Dulverton Middle Schools and has now produced a report that was discussed with Governors on Wednesday 21 May.

Although the Council received 96 responses to the consultation, only 18 were identifiable as being from parents of children who attend the two Dulverton schools or Exford First School.

The Governors want to have a greater and a clearer understanding of parents’ views, and are therefore giving them until Friday 6 June to complete the consultation form.  This further information will then be fed into the decision-making process.

Dave Smith, Chair of Governors said: “It is essential that a decision of such importance is based on as secure an evidence base as possible. We hope parents will respond in large numbers so that their collective view is clear.”

Cllr Frances Nicholson, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet member for Children and Families, said: “I do encourage as many parents as possible to respond by 6 June. It is absolutely crucial that everyone involved should be able to have their say.”
