Somerset Libraries celebrate Adult Learners Week

A number of Somerset Libraries are hosting a range of events and activities to celebrate Adult Learners Week, which runs from 14–20 June.

Events taking place in ten libraries across the county are generally free of charge and include art and craft demonstrations and workshops, U3A special interest groups, Scrabble, flower arranging, family history and computer courses.

Libraries taking part include Bridgwater, Frome, Minehead, Nether Stowey, Priorswood, Taunton, Yeovil, Wellington, Wells and Williton.

There will also be a free, fun Booklovers’ Quiz running in all Somerset Libraries throughout the week.

To find out what’s happening at a library near you, take a look at www.alw.org.uk, call 0845 3459177 or email enquiry@somerset.gov.uk.

The week starts at Wells Library on Friday 13 June with a free creative writing workshop with author Alison Clink, a calligraphy demonstration and a taster ‘Get Online’ workshop.

Spaces are limited so the workshops need to be booked by visiting the library, emailing wlslib@somerset.gov.uk or by telephoning 0845 3459177.

There are also a number of events taking place in Frome. Frome Library welcomes Amanda Bee, Somerset Skills & Learning tutor, who will run two free workshops – Watercolour Painting from 2pm to 4.30pm on Monday 16 June and a Printing Workshop on Wednesday 18 June from 3.15pm to 4.45 pm.

Frome Floral Art Society will share top tips for creative flower arranging on Saturday 14 June (10am to noon) and the Scrabble Club will be offering tips on Thursday 19 June from 2pm to 4pm. A Scrabble mug is on offer to the highest score over five moves.

Throughout the week, Somerset Wildlife Trust (East Mendip Group) will run a wildlife identification quiz at Frome, offering a book token to one lucky winner (chosen at random if there is more than one correct entry).
