Residents in Somerset can now access more than 10 million academic papers covering a wide range of subjects – simply by visiting their local library.
The Access to Research service is the result of a unique collaboration between librarians and publishers, who have made their leading journal content available for free at public libraries.
Resources now available for free through local library terminals include:
- Access to more than 10 million articles in more than 8,800 journals
- Health, Biological Sciences, Business, Economics and Engineering account for 50 per cent of the material.
- Other subjects include Art & Architecture, Environmental Science, History, Journalism, Languages, Politics, Film, Philosophy and Religion, Mathematics, Physics and Technology.
Cllr David Hall, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Libraries, said: “The addition of Access to Research to our wide selection of services will offer students, researchers and anyone with a thirst for knowledge access to thousands of free articles on a huge number of subjects – from art and languages to mathematics, engineering and business.
“This will help people studying for exams and will also be a great resource for anyone looking to find in-depth information on a particular topic.”
