A new website providing information and highlighting services for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities is being developed by Somerset County Council.
The website is co-produced with input from Somerset Parent Carer Forum and incorporates feedback from parents, carers and young people with special education needs across Somerset and other Local Authorities.
The Council wants to make sure that families and young people who have special educational needs and disabilities are able to easily access information about all the services available for them in their local area.
The ‘Local Offer’ is published online to set out all the services available for children and young people up to the age of 25 across education, health, social care, support services and leisure activities.
Cllr Frances Nicholson, Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said: “Our Local Offer has been produced with children and young adults and their families, and local service providers in mind. The website is still in its early days and needs feedback from people on how we can continue to improve it to meet the needs of those who will use it. I would also encourage any local organisations that provide a service for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities to visit the website and provide us with their information.”
Community groups, charities, local organisations and anyone who provides services to support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities are being encouraged to provide information to populate the website.
