Volunteers wanted for Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards

Do you have some spare time and want to help young people achieve their potential? If so, you’ll make a great volunteer for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE).

The Council’s DofE team is looking for volunteers to step forward who can inspire young people and help them complete the programme.

There are lots of ways you can be part of this exciting journey and training and support is provided for anyone who signs up. Everyone who volunteers contributes to making a positive difference in young people’s lives.

There are many ways people can get involved, from coordinators and leaders, who set up and run DofE groups, to supervisors and assessors, who help set goals and oversee progress on the programme and normally have a good knowledge of a young person’s chosen activity.

The team is also looking for DofE Ambassadors who help to raise awareness of the programme among young people and adults, recruit more adult volunteers, raise money and provide training.

These volunteers might have any number of varied skills and experience including publicity and promotion, the internet and social media, marketing and event organisation, fundraising and administration, and networking and public speaking.

To find out more about volunteering opportunities with Somerset DofE, come along to their monthly information events at Go Outdoors in Taunton between 6pm and 8pm on the first Thursday of every month.

Alternatively, phone 01823 349850, email dofe@somerset.gov.uk or visit www.somersetyouth.co.uk to find out more.
