Work on new pedestrian crossing starts

Work to construct a new pedestrian crossing on a busy road in Highbridge has started today.

The work comes with support of the local community after a request was made by Cllr John Woodman as part of Somerset County Council’s Small Improvements Scheme programme.

Work began today (Monday 17 November) to construct a zebra crossing on Pepperall Way, to the south of Field Way. A bus stop currently located near to the new zebra crossing’s location will be moved closer to the entrance of the Highbridge Medical Centre.

The footways will also be resurfaced where needed and dropped kerbs will be installed on either side of Oldway Place.

Cllr Harvey Siggs, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, said, “This pedestrian crossing is a welcome improvement to this particular stretch of road. Improving the safety of pedestrians and drivers on Somerset’s roads is of paramount importance to us and I am pleased that we are able to deliver this crossing which will make a huge difference to the whole community.”

The work to construct the zebra crossing should be complete in December and during this time temporary traffic lights will be in place.
