Somerset County Council is looking for a person to join the Joint Independent Remuneration Panel that advises the County Council and West Somerset, Taunton Deane and Mendip Councils on the payment of allowances to their councillors.
To be eligible to join the Panel you must:
- Be a Somerset resident
- Be interested in public services
- Have no personal or business relationships with the councillors of any of the councils listed above.
Panel members need to be able to attend early evening meetings at County Hall 3 to 4 times a year and read reports prior to each meeting. Training will be provided by officers of the councils.
Appointments will be made to the Panel by the Council following an informal interview process and are initially for a 3 year period, although there is the option for appointments to be renewed for a further 3 year period.
Members of the Panel receive a travel allowance for attending meetings and a small annual payment in recognition of the commitment required to the role.
