LGBT History Month at your local library

To celebrate Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans History Month, Somerset Libraries have compiled a list of book titles available which are either from, for, or about the LGBT community.

LGBT History Month takes place this February and aims to celebrate the lives and achievements of the LGBT community.

The booklist will be on display in all Somerset libraries, and is available for members of the public to take away. It is categorised to help users find relevant titles, and identifies not only books that may be of interest to the LGBT community, but also titles by best-selling LGBT authors including Stephen Fry, Sarah Waters and Clare Balding.

Cllr David Hall, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Libraries, said: “Education is so important in promoting equality and I welcome the efforts of our libraries to celebrate the literary achievements of the LGBT community.”

During LGBT History Month 2014, Somerset Libraries created three collections of LGBT titles that have been travelling around libraries throughout the past year. During February and early March 2015, these collections can be found at Crewkerne, Ilminster and Martock Libraries. They will then move onto Cheddar, Shepton Mallet and Wincanton Libraries from 16 March.
