A Senior Social Work Assistant at Somerset County Council has received the very best acclaim for a Children’s Social Care professional – personal thanks from the young person she has supported.
Teresa Baughan works with Somerset County Council’s Safeguarding Team in Bridgwater and had been working with a young person who had recently suffered a family bereavement. She was living in foster care and had been struggling with school attendance.
Teresa’s continued efforts to engage with the young person have definitely made an impact, with the young person writing a heartfelt note of thanks now she is back in school.
The card Teresa received said: “I can’t thank you enough for what you have helped me with in the last year. You have been a massive help, you’re funny and a happy person. Thank you for everything.”
Teresa said: “By becoming and remaining a consistent face for this young person and adopting an open and honest relationship with them, over time I gained their trust, allowing them to feel safe and re-engage with education.”
Cllr Frances Nicholson, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said: “Our Children’s Services staff have some of the hardest jobs and the way they work with continued dedication and care for the children and young people in Somerset is admirable.
“Teresa’s continued efforts, skills and motivation have provided a stable and reliable adult for this young person, who will now have better life chances as a result. Well done Teresa, we are very proud of the work you and your colleagues are continuing to do on a daily basis.”
