From First Aiders to flood volunteers, litter pickers to parish councillors, dozens of community heroes have been recognised by Somerset County Council’s Chairman.
Councillor Christine Lawrence presented 54 Chairman’s Awards for services to the county’s community; to people who have dedicated their time and energy to others.
The awards evening at Taunton Rugby Club recognised a total of 62 people who have helped their neighbours, as well as village and town organisations, events, and charities.
They include; David and Elaine Walsh for transforming their local Post Office and shop, Ravi Singh for his voluntary work during the Burrowbridge flood crisis, Paul Matthews for organising Fiddington Annual Flower Show, and Andrew Hutchings for reinstating a public, free to enter woodland at Wayford in Crewkerne.
Somerset County Council’s Chairman, Christine Lawrence said: “The high calibre of awards presented this year goes to show that community spirit is alive and well and living in Somerset. We heard remarkable stories of what people in all walks of life carry out, things that might not otherwise happen without their goodwill.”
