Is your social worker special? Nominations for new award now open

Children and young people supported by Somerset Children’s Social Care can now say a big thank you to their social worker with a new award.

Somerset County Council’s annual Staff Awards will take place in January, with a new Children & Young Person’s Social Worker of the Year category added to the long list of accolades that staff can receive.

The new award is unique because it will be the only award nominated for by the children and young people in Somerset. The council is now urging any child or young person who wants to see their social worker recognised for going the extra mile to come forward and say why.

Cllr Frances Nicholson, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said: “This award is for Children’s Social Workers, Independent Reviewing Officers and Leaving Care Workers. We understand how challenging these jobs can be and wanted a new way to thank them for all that they do. What better way to let our staff know they are appreciated, than with a nomination from the child or young person they have supported?”

Cllr Anna Groskop, Somerset Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for Human Resources and Organisational Development, said: “We want to ensure that staff at all levels of the County Council are recognised and celebrated for their outstanding contributions. The Staff Awards Scheme is an opportunity to formally thank for their hard work. It also gives colleagues the opportunity to share examples of excellence and celebrate together.”

If a child or young person would like to nominate their social worker, Independent Reviewing Officer or Leaving Care Worker they can do so by visiting before Monday 30 November.
