The annual Somerset Music Christmas Celebration Concert wowed crowds at Wells Cathedral earlier this month.
The event was organised on behalf of Sound Foundation Somerset by Somerset Music. Somerset Music operates within Support Services for Education within Somerset County Council, offering a wide variety of support services to all education providers.
The two-hour festive music event included performances from ten schools and colleges from across the county. Choirs included the newly formed Somerset County Youth Show Choir and the Somerset County Youth Choir, Cheddar Valley Voices, Bridgwater College Vocal Academy and Bridgwater College Choir.
The Choirs were beautifully accompanied by the Somerset County Youth Concert Band.
Chairman of Somerset County Council, Christine Lawrence, took an active part in proceedings, welcoming the guests and giving a reading, she said: “The event was spectacular and I came away feeling moved and uplifted, having enjoyed a fantastic showcase of young talent.”
The retiring collection raised money for the Chairman’s chosen charities, the National Autistic Society (NAS) and Somerset Trust for Arts & Recreation (STAR), along with Somerset Music.
Cllr Lawrence continued: “Congratulations to everyone involved with the organisation of the day, and each and every one of the performers who made the show so remarkable.”
Helen Reid of Sound Foundation Somerset said: “The standard of singing was particularly impressive this year, and it was clear that the audience really enjoyed the Somerset County Youth Band’s version of Veni Emmanuel.”
Somerset Music are now looking forward to the Somerset County Youth Concert Band & Orchestra Christmas Concerts on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 December and their South Somerset Music Spectacular in March.
