New Year’s Resolution? Lifeline transport service needs YOU!

Community-minded residents with a New Year’s Resolution to make a difference are being urged to consider volunteer driving.

Volunteer drivers are needed across all parts of Somerset to help eligible non-emergency NHS patients and social care users get to and from vital appointments.

Somerset County Council has around 200 fantastic drivers currently acting as volunteers, but the ageing population in Somerset means demand for transport is steadily growing.

Successful recruits can claim back up to 50p per mile for expenses. Hours can be flexible and volunteer driving is a rewarding opportunity to get out and about, meet new people and provide a vital community service.

Anyone can be a volunteer – the only criteria is that drivers must be over 18, have use of their own four-door vehicle, and hold a full UK driving licence with no more than six points.

For an informal chat about what is required, please contact Somerset You Can Do on 01278 664180. More information about volunteering can be found at www.somerset.gov.uk/volunteering.
