Somerset County Council’s Adult Social Care Learning and Development Team were crowned winners of a prestigious national ‘Skills for Care Accolade’ last week.
Now in its 13th year, the Skills for Care Accolades celebrate the achievements of organisations committed to boosting the skills and knowledge of the adult social care workforce.
The Adult Social Care Learning and Development Team collected the award for ‘Best Employer Support for Continuing Professional Development for regulated professions’.
The judging panel were impressed with the team’s newly qualified frameworks for Social Workers and Occupational Therapists and in particular the innovative way these have been integrated.
The team were also praised for the involvement of service users in the development of training programmes and the introduction of a ‘grow your own’ scheme that allows non-qualified staff to go forward onto professional social work and occupational therapy training – supporting the next generation of newly qualified staff.
William Wallace, Cabinet Member for Adults Services at Somerset County Council, said: “I am thrilled that our learning and development team has won the Skills for Care Accolade. The national recognition is great and the team should be very proud of what they have achieved.
“Training and development for staff in adult social care is so important. Giving staff the opportunity to progress their career and develop their skills and knowledge is crucial to keeping staff motivated and continuing their good practice – which leads to high quality care and support for people in our communities.”
