You Smoke, They Smoke

A furry dog called ‘Keith’ and his smoking owner were among the highlights of a formal ‘No Smoking Day’ event for shoppers in the Orchard Shopping Centre this year.

The National No Smoking Day (9th March 2016) event organised by the Council and Smokefreelife Somerset was a chance to get some advice to stop smoking.

There was a helping hand from the larger than life pets and costumed characters who helped to encourage smokers to stop by and they also enforced the message that second hand smoke is worse for pets.

Somerset County Council and Smokefreelife were joined by the Worshipful Mayor of Taunton Deane, Councillor Marcia Hill and officials from the Orchard Shopping Centre. They manned the stop smoking stand and ‘Wellness on Wheels’ mobile clinic at Castle Green in Taunton.

Over 25 people signed up for the Smokefreelife service on the day and over 100 balloons were given out to smokers and shoppers who promised to take them home to loved ones to encourage them to give up the habit.

Smokefreelife Somerset is delivered in partnership with Somerset County Council and aims to reduce levels of smoking related illnesses, disability, premature death and health inequality through the delivery of evidence-based treatment and behavioural support to people wanting to quit

Even if you missed No Smoking Day 2016, Smokefreelife Somerset can still help you be proud to be a quitter! Call 01823 765006 / 0800 246 1063 or visit http://www.smokefreelifesomerset.co.uk for details of your nearest support.
