Community organisations, care providers and active local people are being asked to play a part in improving social care support in West Sedgemoor.
They are invited to a Somerset County Council event at the Church Centre in Nether Stowey to share information about what support is available in their communities.
Adult social care staff will be on hand to discuss how the support and signposting could be improved to help people live well and remain independent for as long as possible.
The event will take place at the Church Centre (TA5 1LJ) on Tuesday, 26 July from 10am to 1pm. It follows a successful event in Minehead in June which attracted more than 40 people from West Somerset.
Councillor William Wallace, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, said: “We want to work with local community groups and learn from them so we can advise and signpost people to the services that will meet their needs in the best way for them.
“Working in partnership in this way allows social care services to be right in the centre of communities and allows people to get the information and help they need quickly and effectively to help them stay independent and well.
“If you are very active in your community, run a community support group, or provide a care and support service in the West Sedgemoor area please come to the event at the end of July to input in to the discussions – we really want to hear from you and work with you.”
Adult Social Care Services now run regular drop-in events in West Somerset. No appointments are needed, people can just turn up for a chat and a cuppa.
Volunteers and social care staff are on hand to give advice, help people find out about local services and community groups, discuss support available to carers and find information on local volunteering opportunities.
The drop-in events take place at:
- The Sanctuary, Watchet (TA23 0AE) – on the last Tuesday of every month from 10am to 1pm.
- Becket House, Williton (TA4 4NR) – on the first Tuesday of every month from 10am to 1pm.
- Baptist Church, Minehead (TA24 8BS) – from August on the first Friday of every month from 10am to 1pm.
