Leader salutes cricketing heroes

The Leader of Somerset County Council as has saluted the county’s cricketing heroes for coming so close to claiming the county’s first championship title.

A victory for Middlesex at Lord’s against Yorkshire this afternoon meant Somerset narrowly missed out on what would have been their first ever championship title.

“It must be heart-breaking to be pipped at the post,” said Councillor John Osman. “But big congratulations go to Chris Rogers, his team and all the backroom staff who have taken Somerset so close to an historic first County Championship title.

“It could hardly have been a more dramatic end to the season and they have done us proud. Somerset County Cricket Club is a big part of our county’s identity and history and we salute them for a tremendous effort this year.”
