The A3088 Cartgate Link Road near Yeovil will be closed on Friday night (30 September) for remedial work.
A major scheme to rebuild the road was completed last month but inspections by Somerset County Council have shown that around 30m of road was not laid to spec.
The contractor will be returning to carry out the work at no cost to the taxpayer.
Cllr David Fothergill, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “The Cartgate resurfacing scheme was a major job and saw 2,300m of road improved using an innovative road recycling technique to minimise disruption.
“Although it was generally very successful, our inspections have identified a very short length of road which could be vulnerable to failure in future.
“It’s important to get this right, so we’ve asked the contractor to return at their own cost to upgrade this final stretch to the same standard as the rest of the road.”
The road will be closed from 7pm until 7am while the repairs are completed. Find out about planned roadworks in Somerset, sign up for alerts, and also check the latest traffic conditions at www.travelsomerset.co.uk or by following @TravelSomerset on Twitter.
