Road closure at Cannington as works near completion

Long-awaited improvements to the route between Cannington and Combwich are set to complete following resurfacing works later this month.

The work is to improve the narrow footway that exists for much of the road between Cannington and Combwich..

Responding to the needs of local residents and commuters, the footway will be widened to provide a shared use footpath/cycleway on the 1.5km stretch between the junction of the C182 with Combwich and the new Cannington Bypass. The carriageway will also be widened and resurfaced with improved drainage.

In order to resurface the carriageway, the road between the junction of the C182 with Combwich and the new Cannington Bypass will be closed overnight from the 10 October for approximately five nights. The closure will be in place from 7pm – 6am.

Councillor David Fothergill, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport said: “This is a scheme that the local residents have asked for and will make life easier and safer for cyclists and walkers between Cannington and Combwich.

“The works are part of wider developments to improve the condition of the C182 in readiness for the Hinkley Point C development. The closure will take place overnight to minimise inconvenience for drivers. We appreciate your patience while the work is completed.”

The scheme is part funded using contributions contained within the Hinkley Point C planning agreement and the Department for Transport’s £1.6million investment in maintenance of highways west of Bridgwater as part of the ‘Hinkley Deal’.
