Somerset needs the A303 dualled as an important step to boost the local economy – that’s the message from Somerset County Council Leader, John Osman today in support of Yeovil MP, Marcus Fysh.
The MP – also a county councillor – spoke this afternoon at Prime Minister’s Questions calling for further investment in projects that will deliver economic benefits. And he spoke in particular about the need for dualling of the A303.
Prime Minister Theresa May responded to his points by welcoming Somerset’s profile on the issue and warmly supporting moves to invest in infrastructure to help businesses and communities.
And their comments were enthusiastically welcomed by Council Leader, John Osman: “It is great that projects like the A303 have been discussed in the House of Commons.”
“I and my Cabinet colleagues have regular meetings with the various Secretaries of State, and also with all our MPs to try to increase investments and investment opportunities in our county. I congratulate Marcus for raising this question with the Prime Minister and also her suggestion that further discussions are held with the Communities Secretary. Increasing the opportunities for jobs, economic growth and reducing journey times is a vital part of what we all want for Somerset.”
