Somerset County Council is joining the many public sector organisations using Instagram to engage residents with their services and is calling on the public to help with the launch.
By adding Instagram to its social media mix, the Council hopes to reach more local residents and visitors to the County. With over 70 per cent of Instagram users in the UK aged 16 to 34, Instagram provides an opportunity to reach a younger audience who may not necessarily know what the Council does.
The County Council’s Instagram account will officially launch on Somerset Day (Thursday 11 May 2017) with a photo competition for the public.
To get involved residents should send a ‘Somerset Selfie’ or, if they prefer, a photo of their favourite Somerset spot, along with their name and a caption to firstname.lastname@example.org by Wednesday 10 May.
The photos will be added to the Somerset Council Instagram account on Somerset Day. The photo with the most likes by 9am on Friday 12 May will win prizes kindly donated by Wookey Hole, Hestercombe House and Gardens and 1610.
Make sure to follow @somersetcouncil on Instagram before Somerset Day to vote for your winning photo.
Terms and conditions of the competition can be found here.
