One of the main routes in Martock is set for essential maintenance works starting next week.
Somerset County Council will be resurfacing and improving the B3165 North Street as part of its long-term maintenance programme.
This involves removing the old surface of the road to an average depth of 100mm before laying a new material using specialist equipment.
The work affects the stretch of road between The Pinnacle and Coat Road and will be split into two phases:
Preparatory works are due to start on 6 June and take two weeks (working between 7.30am to 6.30pm and excluding weekends). North Street will remain open throughout this phase, although temporary traffic lights will be required at times in certain locations.
Carriageway resurfacing works will then begin on 20 June and are expected to take 7 days. Due to the narrow width of the road, and to ensure the safety of the workforce and the travelling public, it will be necessary to close the road during working hours (approximately 7.30am to 6.30pm, excluding weekends). Staff will be available on site to help with people who need to access their property.
A spokesman for Somerset County Council said: “We have a duty to keep our roads in good condition and this is vital work on key route through the village.
“Although we’ll be taking all reasonable steps to minimise disruption, due to the location some inconvenience is unavoidable and we apologise for this in advance.”
