One of the main routes through Shepton Mallet is set for essential highway maintenance works next month.
Somerset County Council will be improving and resurfacing the A361 Fosse Lane as part of its long-term highway maintenance programme.
This involves repairing the drainage system, removing the old road surface and reconstructing the carriageway using specialist equipment.
The work affects the majority of the road between Amulet Way and the Cannards Grave Roundabout and will be split into two phases:
During Phase 1, which runs from 3 to 9 July, Fosse Lane will remain open with temporary traffic lights and a convoy system in place to slow traffic and enable work to be carried out safely.
During Phase 2, which runs from 10 to 14 July, the road will be closed overnight from approximately 6pm to 7.30am, with traffic diverted along the A37 Whitstone Road.
Cllr John Woodman, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “This key maintenance work is much needed, but it’s a very busy road and we’re aware it will impact on local residents and businesses.
“We’ll be working closely with all those affected to keep disruption to a minimum and we’ll also be working hard to complete the works as quickly as possible.”
