Read The Books & Catch The Crook

Somerset libraries are inviting children to help the Animal Agents – a bunch of furry, slippery and feathered friends – solve a mystery in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.

To take part all children have to do is visit their local library and sign up to read six books throughout the summer.

As they read their books, each child will receive special stickers (some of which are very smelly), to help complete their Animal Agents collectors folder and solve the library mystery.

Everyone who completes the challenge by reading six books will receive a certificate and a unique Summer Reading Challenge Medal.

Cllr David Hall, Cabinet Member with responsibility for libraries at Somerset County Council said: “We’re delighted to participate in this national challenge to encourage children to keep reading through the holidays. Last year we had more than 7000 children take part in the challenge, in libraries all across Somerset. It’s a great opportunity to strengthen our community by working with schools and families to encourage in children a love of reading.”

Young readers can also go on the website www.animal-agents.org.uk to create a profile, chat about books, and play games.  As well as revealing the clues, each sticker contains a code. During the summer, the codes can be entered to unlock extra surprises.

The Animal Agents Summer Reading Challenge, which is free to join, runs from Saturday 15 July until Saturday 9 September.

Ends
