Dillington House and garden will be transformed into a magical winter wonderland complete with ice-skating rink next weekend.
The venue, which is one of the County Council’s traded services, is staging a ‘Go Crackers’ festive event from Friday 1, December until Sunday 3 December.
As well as the skating rink it will boast a snow machine and Christmas market with more than 70 festive stalls, including food, bouncy castle, face painting, textiles, amusements and handcrafted gifts.
The Christmas market, which is free to enter, will open between 9.30am and 5pm on Saturday 2 December, and will be followed by candlelit carol service, performed by Harmony 303 (Martock and Ash Community Choir) in front of the house.
Greenfylde school will then lead a lantern parade across the grounds. From 6pm Greenfylde School will be singing Christmas carols in the Hyde courtyard, and from 4pm to 7pm Santa with his elves will be onsite spreading festive cheer.
Gates reopen on Sunday with stalls open from 10am to 5pm. At midday, you will find a beautiful display of classic cars at the front of the house, and from 2pm Bartholomew’s Hand Bell ringing group will be in the Mews Courtyard.
The ice skating rink will be open from Friday 1 December, from 1pm until 9pm, Saturday from 9.30am until 9pm, and Sunday from 9.30am until 4.30pm. Advance booking cost £7 per hour for adults (or £7.50 on the day) and £5 for children (£5.50 on the day).
Cllr Faye Purbrick, Junior Cabinet Member for Corporate and Community Services at Somerset County Council said: “I’m delighted to see such a wonderful line up for Dillington House’s first ‘Go Crackers’ event. It’s a fantastic venue to visit throughout the year, and looks set to be a magical backdrop this Christmas. The team have done great job combining some excellent stalls, local entertainment and family activities with a huge dose of festive spirit.
“Go Crackers offers something for everyone, whether you’re looking to ice skate closer to home, get a head start on your Christmas shopping, or you just want to enjoy the food, drink, and entertainment. We can’t wait and hope Somerset’s residents will love it too”
