Drivers are reminded that a key route between Bridgwater and Street will be closed next week for major resurfacing works.
The essential work on the A39 Main Street at Walton is the latest phase of significant highway maintenance investment along the A39 corridor in recent times.
Works start at approximately 7am on Monday 5 February and will take around two weeks to complete, with the scheme split into two phases to minimise disruption. During phase 1 (5-11 February), the road will need to be closed 24/7 to keep both the public and workforce safe. During phase 2 (12-16 February), it will be possible to reopen the road from approximately 7pm to 7.30am, outside of working hours.
Cllr John Woodman, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “The A39 is clearly in need of repairs and I’m pleased we’ve been able to plan these comprehensive improvements.
“We fully understand how well used the A39 is and started publicising this work back in early December to give people plenty of time to prepare. Other routes in the area are likely to be busier while the closure is in place so please plan your journey carefully and allow extra time over the next two weeks.”
A suggested diversion route suitable for all vehicles can be found at www.travelsomerset.co.uk/roadworks or will be clearly signposted on site. As with any road closure, drivers are free to find their own alternatives.
