Proud to Care careers fair highlights job opportunities

Would-be care workers are being urged to find out more about potential new opportunities and careers  at the first Proud to Care recruitment event in Somerset.

Somerset County Council has organised the Proud to Care jobs fair which will take place on Wednesday, 25 April, at the Wyvern Club, Mountfields Road, Taunton, TA1 3BJ from 1.15pm to 3.45pm.

It’s an  initiative that aims to raise the profile of careers in the care sector. By 2030 it is estimated that an additional 90,000 care workers will be required in the South West and Proud to Care is looking to bring new recruits into this rewarding area of work.

Everyone is welcome to attend the event, regardless of their previous employment – a team of advisors will be present to talk through what opportunities that the care sector may be able to offer. As well as Somerset County Council staff, representatives from some of the county’s many care providers will be on hand.

Councillor David Huxtable, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care is keen for as many people to attend the event as possible. He said: “We have a thriving care community in Somerset, and it is constantly growing as the demand increases.

“Finding more people who want an active career in the industry is therefore a priority. Our first Proud to Care event will be a great introduction to the opportunities available, and I would urge anyone who is interested to come along and have a chat with the team.”

Whether you’re looking for a career change, or a fresh start, care could be the career for you. No previous experience or qualifications are required, as extensive training is available, yet jobs within the industry can provide flexible working hours, high levels of job satisfaction, and a job where no two days will be the same.
