A free day of fun activities for children with Special Educational Needs and/or a disability and their families will be taking place in Street next month.
Somerset County Council’s Short Breaks Team is putting on the free Family Fun Day on Saturday 7 July at Brookside Academy on Brooks Road, with activities including circus skills, a climbing wall and music and face-painting.
It’s also an opportunity to chat to short break activity providers, support organisations, groups and professionals about the support and services that are available for children and young people with SEND and/or a disability.
Other activities on the day include:
- Bouncy castle and soft play
- Accessible bikes
- Wheel chair sports
If the weather is kind, the Red Arrows will be flying by at the beginning of the day on their way to Air Day!
The whole day is absolutely free – the only thing you need to pay for is lunch.
There’s no need to book in advance, people can come along on the day and it is open to any parent carer of a child or young person with Special Educational Needs and/or a disability and their family.
The Short Breaks Team publishes a calendar and newsletter at regular intervals throughout the year which tells you what’s going across Somerset. You can find it online here.
Cllr Frances Nicholson, Cabinet Member for Children and Families at Somerset County Council said: “This is a great opportunity to have fun, meet new people and find out more information about the Council’s short break service.
“There will be a host of short break activity providers on hand to meet families, offer tasters of activities they are putting on this summer and signposting families to new opportunities.”
The event runs from 10am until 2pm.
