There’s something for everyone this summer when it comes to family activities in West Somerset.
A programme of over 360 events for families and young people – many of them free – has been put together by the West Somerset Local Forum.
This is a collective of voluntary organisations which provide support and opportunities for young people and their families in West Somerset. The events are organised in the community and coordinated by the voluntary groups.
A calendar has been published detailing the events and has been given to all early years and school children in the area, and copies are also available from local libraries and children’s centres. You can also download it here.
The initiative is backed by the Government-funded and Somerset County Council-backed West Somerset Opportunity Area (WSOA).
Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Families, Councillor Frances Nicholson said: ““It is really good to see so many activities over the summer. I know many of them have already proved very successful and I hope as many children and families and possible will benefit over the remainder of the holidays.”
Clare Pound from Home Start, who chairs the Local Forum, added: “We just want families to enjoy their summer and hope that there is something for every family in the programme.”
Transport is a problem for many families and young people, but there is the Free Hinkley Point C bus which operates on Monday to Friday from 10am to 3pm and connects Minehead with Watchet, Blue Anchor, Kilve, Stogursey and Bridgwater.
There will be three buses from Minehead to Bridgwater, leaving Minehead at 10am, 11.30am and 1pm. The service will also feature three buses from Bridgwater to Minehead which will leave Bridgwater at 10am, 11.30am and 1pm.
*If bus passengers have any travel questions, the Bus Service helpline on 01278 557001 is available.
