Somerset County Council is launching a Christmas card design competition across Schools in Somerset to help the search for more foster carers.
Christmas is a particularly difficult time for children in care. Great foster carers can make their lives a little easier and help them towards a brighter future.
Pupils are being encouraged to think about children whose families are unable to take care of them and design a fostering-themed Christmas Card to raise awareness and to reach out to potential Somerset Foster carers in the lead up to Christmas.
The competition is open to all Somerset school pupils aged 18 or under. It will be judged by Cllr Frances Nicholson, Lead Member for Children’s Services at Somerset County Council and the winner will be announced by the 3 December.
Councillor Frances Nicholson said: “There are now over 500 ‘looked after’ children in Somerset and we urgently need more foster carers to offer them safe and loving homes. We’re really looking forward to seeing some creative designs to help get that message across.”
The two winning entrants (from the 11 and under category and 12 and over category) will win a £50 voucher, a certificate presented to them at their school by Cllr Frances Nicholson and their winning design made into official ‘Fostering in Somerset’ Christmas cards.
Designs must fit one side of a A5 size card, they can be submitted in card, paper or electronic format and be as creative as they like. Entries can be sent to Communications Team, Somerset County Council, County Hall, Taunton, TA1 4DY. Digital entries can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please make sure entries are labelled, either on the reverse or on an email, with name, age, contact details, name of school etc. Closing date for entries is Monday 26 November 2018.
