From beginners to race veterans, Somerset County Council staff and Foster Carers came out in force running in the Yeovil Half Marathon on Sunday (31 March), to encourage everyone to help vulnerable Somerset children.
A fifty-strong team ran wearing ‘Fostering in Somerset’ vests to raise awareness on fostering, while fostering staff and foster carers were on hand at the information stall to offer advice to anyone interested in fostering children.
Julian Wooster, Director of children’s services at Somerset County Council was thrilled with the turnout: “It was amazing to watch a sea of foster carers and colleagues cross the finish line, all in ‘Fostering in Somerset’ vests. So many people came out to raise awareness by running in the event itself or supporting us at our fostering information stall.
“Thank you to the hard work of and training hours put in from everyone who took part; especially our dedicated foster carers, social workers and supportive friends and families.
“Somerset Children in Care are all our children, it’s important we all do our bit to offer them a better future. You can easily support ‘not for profit’ fostering with your local authority – just ‘like’ or ‘follow’ our Facebook, Instagram and twitter pages ‘fosteringinsomerset’ or download a fostering flyer from our website and share it in your community”.
If you could help change a child’s life we’d love to hear from you.
