Join our drive to help save lives on the road in Somerset

A local car dealership is among the firms helping drive forward life-saving work in Somerset by sponsoring the County Council’s road safety team.

Rowcliffes Vauxhall have shown their commitment to helping reduce the number of casualties on the county’s roads as part of Somerset Road Safety’s new sponsorship programme.

Supporting the work of Somerset Road Safety is a great way to show just how much you care about the county and the safety of the people that live and work here.

Richard Clarke, General Sales Manager, said “Rowcliffes Vauxhall in Taunton, Yeovil and Street, and now Rowcliffes SsangYong in Bridgwater have been working together with Somerset Road Safety for just over three years now.

“During this time we have been involved in various events across Somerset supporting road safety initiatives, which included the annual Somerset Motofest. We have also arranged for the Somerset Road Safety event vehicle to be re-wrapped and updated with new artwork.

We have found that working with an organisation such as Somerset Road Safety is a valuable experience, and helping to promote safe road use fits with our corporate aims for social responsibility, as well as keeping people at the heart of what we do.”

More businesses are invited to join in the sponsorship programme with a number of opportunities available to help proactively promote and deliver road safety work covering all road user types and age groups in Somerset.

Councillor John Woodman, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “I would like to personally thank Rowcliffes for supporting the important work of our road safety team and investing in a safer Somerset.

“Our road safety team does a marvellous job of helping to reduce casualties on the county’s roads and currently have a number of valuable opportunities for firms get involved in expanding and furthering this work.

“Helping to keep everyone safe on the roads is one way to show how much you care. We all live and work in Somerset and all have a vested interest in keeping everyone safe.”

Somerset Road Safety provides road safety advice and training to all road user types and age groups in the county. In 2018 the team directly engaged with more than 28,000 people through its diverse road safety programme and reached over 2 million people through its social media network. The team also works in partnership with other agencies with an interest in road safety, such as Avon and Somerset Police, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and Highways England, to maximise the effectiveness of their operation.
