Essential resurfacing to take place on key Bridgwater road

Vital repair and resurfacing works on the A39 North Street in Bridgwater are due to take place next month.

The road is to be resurfaced to restore its profile, protect the foundations and improve skid resistance.

Due to the width of the road, and to keep the workforce and travelling public safe, the road will be closed during working hours. To minimise disruption this will take place during off-peak hours, between 6.30pm and 11.30pm for five evenings starting on Monday 9 March.

Cllr John Woodman, Somerset County Council Cabinet member for Highways, said: “This is a key road in Bridgwater so it’s essential we invest in keeping it in good condition.

“We appreciate that it’s a busy route which is why we’ve planned works to take place during off-peak hours to minimise disruption. However, we would still encourage people to plan ahead.”

During working hours, an alternative route will be clearly signposted with works carefully phased to ensure access to Camden Road is maintained.

Somerset County Council looks after more than 4,170 miles of road and in 2018/19 invested £24.7m to keep the county moving, including filling 18,519 potholes and delivering 385 highway maintenance schemes ranging from drainage works to carriageway and footway resurfacing
