Highways workers are taking advantage of the quieter roads across the county by bringing forward two essential resurfacing schemes in the next two weeks.

Due to high levels of traffic on busy roads, it can be difficult to plan works that require a road closure. However, with traffic levels still reduced, Somerset County Council has brought forward some works on key roads to minimise disruption.

Essential resurfacing work will now take place on the A39 Long Street in Williton on Monday 18^th of May for 5 days. On Tuesday 26^th of May resurfacing works will then begin on the A358 High Street in Williton and continue over 3 days.

Both road closures will be in place from 7.30am – 5pm and during these hours an alternative route will be clearly signposted.

Councillor John Woodman, Cabinet Member for Highways at Somerset County Council, said: “It’s great news that we are able to take advantage of the quieter roads in Somerset by bringing forward these two important resurfacing schemes in Williton.

“A road closure is the only option for these works, but with lower levels of traffic it means there will be far less disruption for road users. However, as with any road closure, we would always encourage people to plan ahead.”
