Important surface repair works to a busy Yeovil junction begin later this month.
The essential repairs work on the A30 Sherborne Road centres on the junction with Lyde Road and is scheduled to run from Monday 26 October to Friday 6 November 2020. The work involves minor patch repairs and manhole repairs.
All efforts have been made to minimise the impact of the work, which is being carried out by Barratt Homes, but inevitably this will cause some delays although no closures are necessary. The area affected is from St Michael Avenue to Pen Mill Hotel – a stretch of approximately 200m.
Manually controlled lights will be in place from 7am to 6pm and the developer’s contractor, Northavon, has been in the process of informing all local residents and nearby businesses by letter before work is undertaken.
The works are not being paid for by Somerset County Council but it will take over responsibility of maintenance once completed.
Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, Cllr John Woodman said: “These works may not be welcome in the short term, but we have to ensure the good condition of our roads which means repairs are sometimes required.
“In this case it’s important to stress it’s not coming at a cost to our council tax-payers.”
