Sandbags

If your property is flooded you should telephone the Devon and Somerset Fire Service 01392 872200

Provision of sandbags is a District Council responsibility. Policies vary between councils in terms of the number that can be provided and whether they can be delivered or need to be collected. In an emergency their supplies will be subject to availability of materials and resources.

Sandbags are available at most hardware stores and if you have concerns we recommend that you buy some in advance of any potential flooding to ensure you have the numbers you would like, when you would like them.

Sedgemoor

The Council keeps a limited stock of sandbags for residents to collect to protect external doors and air bricks that are at flood risk. Residents will be allowed a maximum of 6 sandbags per property. The Council is unable to provide sandbags to protect land, gardens, garages, sheds etc.

To request sandbags telephone 0845 408 2540 or 01278 435435 (Monday to Friday 09:00 to 05:00pm) to check if the depot is open for collections.

Residents wishing to collect sandbags, should contact Sedgemoor District Council

During severe flooding, or where there is a threat of severe flooding, sandbags may be deposited at a central point in the local area for resident collection.

Where a resident is unable to collect sandbags from a central location due to restricted access caused by flooding or because they are elderly, vulnerable or disabled the Council will try to deliver sandbags to the property.
